Book Review by Hannah

We have finished our 4th novel, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever written by Barbara Robinson. The main characters are the Herdmans. The way I would describe the Herdman's are rude and disrespectful. The one thing that surprised me about the book was that the Herdman's changed some traits about themselves. A few character traits that I found are, Alice is a snitch because she was writing everything on a pad of paper. My favorite character in this novel was Imogene because she reminds me of myself except, I won't smoke. We are going to read the sequel to this novel, The Best (Worst) School Year, over break. I'm looking forward to this because The Best Christmas Pageant Ever was great I know The Best(Worst) School Year Ever is going to be great too. I think this book was great because you can get so into it. You will feel like you never want to stop reading it. If I could have one of the Herdman's as a friend, I would choose Imogene because she is the oldest and  better behaved then the others.

We just completed our novel. Loser is a book by Award Winner Jerry Spinelli. The main character in the novel is Zinkoff. One word to describes Zinkoff is playful. The reason I think this word describes him is because he always playing around. The setting of the story is school and his house.

Here's the Scoop!

Today is Friday, November 15, 2013 and the weather is getting chiller. We have been working hard in Math. We learned new Divisibility rules. Divisibility is when you find the GCF (Greatest Common Factor). We have also learned to find the GCF. In order to find the GCF you need to list the the factors of what ever the number is and do it to the other number, then you see what the. Highest factor that is on both numbers is the answer to the problem.

The number of the day is 33. We take a number and do something like this 13+20=33 and try to find other ones that equals 33, we can use +, -, x, and division.

Mrs. Binge's 6th grade class is selling snack passes for $1.00. Every Wednesday Mrs. Binge is selling snack passes for a $1.00 and you get a pass you can use the pass any time you want. The money they raise goes to Growing Stong and Habitat Humanity.

Congratulations to following students that made the Durfee Basketball team; Tyler, Kaderius, Jacobe, Jamel, Kamilian, and Trelyn. Their first game is Tuesday at the DISC at 3:45pm.

Our next States and Capitals test is Wednesday, November 20, 2013. I am currently studying to take a Greatest Common Factor. I am sure I will do great. There is a song on YouTube that we have been using to help us with our States. I really love that song.

We have also been studying lots of Vocabulary words. Each week we make flash cards, work on sentences, graphic organizers and made videos with our IPads. My favorite word we've learned so far is Monopoly. The definition of Monopoly is Control of a product or service by one company.

Our Holiday program is December 12 at 12:45. The 5th graders will be singing Jingle Bell Rock and We Will Jingle.

In Reading we are reading a book called Loser. Loser is about a little kid named Donald Zinkoff that hopes for more snow days and to grow up like his Dad (mailman). Zinkoff always raises his with all the wrong answers, trips over his own feet, and falls down with laughter over a word like "Jabip". Other kids have their own word to describe him, but Zinkoff is too busy to hear it. He doesn't know he's not like everyone else. And one winter night, Zinkoff's differences show that any name can someday be a "hero". I like the book because it has all the great things that a great book has making sense, enterment and fun.

My Poem by Hannah

I love to write poems,
I have no idea what I should write,
I hope it be all right,
Maybe I should chill,

Maybe there's poems at the library,
I think I should look and see,
Maybe the libraryen threw the poems into the sea,
I think I should ask her,
But in have no idea what she would say,

I hope I think of something before the time is out,
Maybe I should pout,
Because I can't I think of anything,
Not anything at all.

Shiloh Book Review by Hannah

Today is October 24, 2013. We have just completed our second novel, Shiloh. The protagonist in the book is Shiloh. A protagonist is the main character of the whole book. The antagonist is Judd. An antagonist is a character that fights against the main character.

The main conflict in the story is when Marty face the fact that Shiloh is not for sale. The resolution was when Marty got Shiloh back by working for Judd. My favorite part of the book was when Marty got Shiloh back. My least favorite part of Shiloh is when Judd took Shiloh back. if I could be any of the character in the book I would be Shiloh because Shiloh is the main character and that Shiloh is always good to people. I would recommend this book to another student because it's a good book for younger kids can read.

Here's The Scoop By Hannah

Today is October 4, 2013. It has been a great week. I did a awesome job on my states test. I will continue working on my states. The one thing I find difficult when learning about states is that I am learning the states a different way then last year.

In Math we have been working on Place Value. I think Place Value is just decimals and numbers. We worked on ITunes U with Ms. Ellis in Math. I really rock it. The most interesting thing working with ITunes U is the fun work we do.

We started a new novel called Shiloh. It's about Marty meeting a dog the he named Shiloh, Shiloh owner named Judd scolds him for no reasons a all. The one thing that I like about this novel is that Marty meets Shiloh for the first time. The one thing I did not like about this novel is that Judd scolds Shiloh. One character trait that describes the main character Marty is he is kind, because he takes care of Shiloh.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Three important facts about it one is women who carry the BRCA1 and BRCA1 mutated genes, have 80% risk of developing Breast Cancer. Anther fat about it is Nearly 200,000 Americans are diagnosed with Breast Cancer annually. Yet according to the center for Disease Control and Prevention there are roughly 2.5 million Breast Cancer survivors in the U.S. The last fact is that men have a 1 out of 1,000 chance of developing Breast Cancer, about 100 less likely then women. It is most common in men ages 60 to 70. The American Cancer Society Predicts 2,190 new cases in 2012. Grades come out in a couple of weeks. I'm sure I have wonderful job on my grades.
